Keep the cards with the gifts as they unwrap them or write a list as they unwrap them so you can remember who gave what when it comes time to write thank you notes.

For babies you can get some blank or thank you note cards and add the baby’s thumbprint along with a nice thank-you message.    Another cute idea to add to this is to have several thumb prints and use a felt tip marker to make them look like bugs, butterflies, ladybugs, etc.    So cute!

If you have a photo software on your computer it may have the feature of making greeting cards.    Take a photo of your child holding each gift and upload it to a greeting card to each person who gave them the respective gift with a note from them thanking them for the great gift.    People love to see birthday kids playing with their new toys!    (Especially if they are a distant friend/relative).

Once your child is of handwriting-age, help them to hand-write simple thank you notes.    I have friends (including myself) who require their child to write their thank you notes before playing with their gifts.    This way it’s an incentive to get it done and it actually gets done fast!

At a party when your child opens gifts it’s can be amidst of fury of paper flying everywhere, kids climbing up front to watch or help and it gets pretty noisy.    Try to keep the kids sitting down and once they’re sitting continue with the unwrapping.    It’s not fair for the others in back who can’t see.

VERY IMPORTANT, at the party have your child thank their friend immediately for the gift.    They (and you will too probably) will forget who gave what when they leave.
