SIDS Prevention

A new study by Kaiser Permanente shows that by using a fan in a baby’s room helps reduce the risk of SIDS by about 72%. The risk was cut by 94% if the fan was being used in a room that was warmer than 69 degrees Farenheit. No one really knows the real reason for SIDS occurring but one of the theories is that the carbon dioxide that is released from the baby’s airways is trapped between the bedding and their nose and mouth and inhaled again. The fan seems to increase ventilation enough to keep the air moving around preventing this from happening.
