The Importance of Making a Phone Book for Children
In today’s world we’re finding it more important to educate our children on safety tips and how to handle emergencies. I got a great child-safety idea from my sister who sent a small photo album (a single 4×6 photo per side of page) with pictures and phone numbers in it for my kids to use. It was very kid-friendly because it had pictures of the people along with their phone number and names on each page. So for my mom and dad it had a photo of them standing outside their house and was labeled “Oma and Poppy” and their home phone number (remember to include 1- area code where applicable). This way my son who can’t read yet (who is 5) can tell who he’s calling too!
She also took a photo of my mom talking on her cell phone and labeled it as “Oma’s cell phone” with her cell number so he knew how to reach her out of the house. My brother-in-law is a firefighter and he took a photo of a fire engine and they labeled it as “Emergency 911″. We’re also going to add photos of our neighbors and we’re going to decorate and bedazzle it together so they are familiar with what it looks like and where it is kept.
My kids are too young to be left at home alone but as anyone knows, accidents and emergencies do happen and it’s best to have your children prepared so they can handle the situation without going into a panic.
Please add any ideas you might have to help us “arm” our children for any kind of emergencies. Thanks!
