Fish Oil, in particular Omega-3, I have heard has a positive effect on child behavior and attitude. Even though I have researched this in dept, I have heard it on a radio talk show and have read about it, not to mention experienced it with my own children.
Here is an e-mail I received from someone giving their experience with giving the Omega-3 fish oil to her daughter:
To be honest, my daughter’s pediatrician told me she didn’t feel comfortable giving the Omega 3 Fish Oil to our daughter who at that time was just turning 4 years old. We tried it tentatively and found great results. We used the Omega 3 Orange Flavor packets in the pharmacy aisle. It is for children and the pharmacist orders it for us so we know she will have it on hand. I give one packet each day. I squeeze the packet in her mouth and follow it with a spoonful of ice cream. No matter what we have tried, there doesn’t seem to be product that SHE can’t taste. We tried the omega 3 gummy vitamins and wow!!! I tried them just to be sure that our daughter wasn’t exaggerating and they were awful!!! Omega 3 has worked well for us in the past and the benefits come from consistent use. Our daughter’s behavior has leveled out and she finds it much easier to focus.
Here is another story:
I brought my mother home to live with me 2 months ago. Once dad died, her
assisted living facility neglected her and witheld medical treatment. After a
hospitalization she’s been with me for 2 months. The omega 3 has had a
miraculous effect on her.
She has severe dementia and has pretty much had little to no conversation for two years now. We would visit her and see the shell of mom, but we had nothing to do but sit and stare at her. For the most part, she lost the capability to communicate. We were even told she had end stage dementia. About 5% of what she said made sense over the past two years. Well, three weeks ago I started her on fish oil and took her off aspirin. I initially did this for her heart, but the affect on her brain has been astounding, and this started THE DAY she started on it. She communicates all through out the day and about 50% of what she says now makes sense. If she’s well rested, she is lively, happy and loving. She’s absolutely hysterical most of the time, and our family is all tremendously blessed watching this change in her. We
reversed 2+ years of the dementia. BTW, she’s only 68.
I have absolutely NO doubt that fish oil does wonders for the brain. After
much research, I started it myself after a brain injury. I’m almost out - mom’s drinking it down like koolaid. And I’m more than happy to share.
Now here’s my story:
We use Udo’s Oil 3*6*9 Blend because we heard Udo Erasmus, PhD, himself speak at an Anthony Robbins health conference/workshop, called Life Mastery, and he spoke of the purity of the combination of the oils put in this brown bottle (which is to protect it’s potentcy). We buy it at the Vitamin Shoppe, which is a little cheaper than at Whole Foods, but you can find it at both. Although Omega-3 fish oils are important, so are Omega-6 and Udo’s Oil 3*6*9 Blend has the ideal balance of these essential fatty acids.
If you’ve read my bio you know that I have a 3 year old, 5 year old, and 8 year old. The two oldest are boys, if that tells you anything. The boys naturally are rambunxious, noisy, and high energy. What I’ve noticed is that when they are not taking the Udo’s Oil their behavior is terrible! They are more apt to fight with their siblings (constantly it seems), talk back, throw fits, get frustrated easily, etc. etc. When they’re taking 1 tbsp. of the Udo’s Oil per day (chasing it with juice) their behaviors improve a great deal! Their patience level increases, they do not get upset or frustrated as easily when they have difficulty doing something, they are kinder in general and the “time-outs” are rare.
You might think this stuff if gross because it’s oil, but our kids take it by spoonful followed by apple juice. The beauty of this stuff is that it can be disguised into a lot of foods and no one will be the wiser! These foods include salads, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, chili, casseroles, cottage cheese, applesauce, protein shakes, juices; or drizzle it over steamed vegetables, rice, pasta, baked potatoes, etc. It’s best to put the daily dose (1 tbsp. per 50 lbs. of body weight) in the individual serving on the plate and mix it up so as to administer the full amount to the person intended.
So if you’re having behavioral problems with your child, try one of these ideas! My guess is that you’ll find great results!
